Gender Wars

The portrayal of genders in this film are mixed, and not easy to explain within one sentence. I'll start with the women in the film first.

Women

Maude: Maude is portrayed as smart and powerful, what with the foundation for the children's college fund. She controls the money and her father's allowance. She also seems in control of her life which is always a good thing to have. She is successful at getting what she wants, like the baby with 'The Dude', which also shows her independence. She doesn't need him to help raise her child and just wants to be a single mother.

Bunny: Bunny Lebowski is seen by almost everyone as a slut. She was in porno's and is also mots likely known as a gold digger for marrying an old man because he's 'rich'.
"I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars."
She doesn't seem very smart, especially not with money. She owes money all over the city. She seems like the stupid, hot girl that almost every movie inevitably has.

Men

Jeff Lebowski(The Dude): The Dude is a laid-back kind of guy that is less than the average man. He has no job, and doesn't seem to try and change that. He does drugs, drinks, and bowls. That pretty much sums up his life. He has friends and bowls with them. He is very scruffy looking and wears hideous clothing. It seems as if this is what he wants in life though. He doesn't aim very high and seems lazy.

Walter Sobchak: Walter most definitely has anger issues throughout the entire movie. He carries a gun and usually his ex-wife's dog around with him. He can't move on and forget about her. He seems stuck in the past. He is irritable, angry, anxious, bitter, and one of those guys that do stuff without thinking it through. At all.

Jeffrey Lebowski: This man has ego mania on the brain. He fakes being rich and powerful just for appearance. He's shallow in that way and because he married Bunny, who is obviously much younger than him. He must've known that she didn't really love him and just wanted him for his money, but I guess he didn't care. I think that he is the way he is mainly because he is in a wheel chair, and probably doesn't feel as important without the use of his legs.

For a summary of the men in this movie, they are all pretty much losers, and all have problems. The women are divided because Maude is completely different from Bunny.
